Why does quarantine make the heart grow fonder?

Updated: Mar 6, 2020

In this busy, hectic world we live in, it's no wonder that sometimes we dream of nothing more then to sit on the sofa, feet up, brew/beer in hand either watching the TV or burrowed in a good book. We can leave the manic world outside and enjoy this peace and quiet, knowing we are treating ourselves to a well deserved break.

But suddenly, with the threat of Covid-19 spreading through the country, we are now faced with the idea of having to isolate, and now this alone time just doesn't seem as appealing.

Why is it that now we a forced to be alone, we don't want it? All those busy days wishing for a moments peace, all those travel journeys spent up close next to a stranger, all those packed out restaurants with two hour wait times, now don't seem as bad.

We need others, we need Ceremony.

The truth is, as much as we need our own space we also need each other around. Humans were not designed to be solo creatures and we have always been stronger in a group. Just as animals travel in packs, so do we, combining our mental knowledge and physical strength to over come obstacles and thrive. This is why Ceremony is so important to us. We need the power and presence of others - even if it's just one or two - to help us on our journey, keep us strong and enable us to achieve. Ceremony is one of our oldest traditions - and comes most naturally to us. Yes, right now we may need to be away from others until the virus clears, but afterwards I'm sure we will come together to celebrate, as we always do.
